Self-Care Tips for the Modern Remote Worker
Self-Care Tips for the Modern Remote Worker
Working from home has made some things effortless — including your ability to fall into unhealthy habits. Without a set schedule, you may ignore your need to exercise and forget to change out of your pajamas. Even if you don’t have to go into a physical office every day, it's best to find a self-care routine for the sake of your mental and physical well-being.
Make Time for Yourself
While it's easy to fall into the trap of constant work mode, a well-being routine can also help you feel more energized and productive in the long run.
Practice meditation. Only a few minutes per day of mindful meditation can help reduce your stress levels, make you feel calmer, and improve your relationships with those around you. If you don’t know where to start, there are many applications that can start you off on your mindfulness journey.
Give home yoga a try. Yoga can improve mobility and lower your stress levels. It’s also great exercise and can be a lot more fun than high-intensity training. Starting with a few sessions per week from the comfort of your home can make a difference to your mood.
Explore your local area. San Jose is a great place for walking. A hike in Almaden Lake Park or Guadalupe River Park is a perfect way to get some exercise and help you feel ready to tackle that new project.
Dress for the Part You Want To Play
When you work from home, it’s easy to fall into the habit of jumping out of bed and crawling to your desk while nursing a coffee. As you’re not going out, there’s no real point in getting dressed. But there is. Getting dressed before you start your day can improve productivity and help you stay focused. It can also improve your self-image and make you feel confident about your looks.
Stay comfortable and stylish. Invest in comfortable but nice-looking items, such as polo shirts and leggings, to wear around the house.
Research best work from home outfits. What you wear can influence your mood. Have some fun and experiment with different outfits, as well as things like leggings and bras made for comfort, to see which make you feel more productive.
Invest in Your Home Office
It’s important to feel comfortable when you work. When your workspace is your bed or a cluttered living room sofa, it’s easy to become disheartened and procrastinate. Set up a designated working area that includes a desk (or a table) and a comfortable ergonomic chair. Make sure you have proper lighting in your workspace and plenty of storage space to avoid building up clutter.
Small Steps Make a Big Difference
By taking some simple steps, such as implementing yoga and a walking routine into your day, you can take care of yourself. Dressing before work in your favorite fashionable but comfortable items can help you feel great, and don't neglect your home working area, which is where you’re spending most of your time.
